Accessibility-Based Approach: Shaping Travel Needs in Pandemic Situation for Planners’ Perspectives

    Get PDF
The outbreak of acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-Cov-2) causing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has affected travel behaviors and lifestyles in a matter of days and weeks. In transport planning process, the concept of accessibility is usually interpreted as an acronym of mobility. For decades, researchers have been advocating to interlink the mobility-based approach with accessibility-based approach. Despite considerable research work has been done for the development of accessibility measures, yet its effective use in transport planning is not very pervasive. In this research study, stress is emphasized to reflect on why significant progress for adopting accessibility-based approach has been difficult to accomplish especially in planning practices. Some of the promising efforts made so far have been highlighted. This study provides insights on the power of accessibility-based approach in urban settings and discussed why planners should adopt this approach to reshape safe travel behaviors in uncertain pandemic situations like COVID-19

    Get PDF
In this paper, we introduce a new set Fsb of nonlinear functions. We obtain unique common fixed point theorems for (β; F)-weak contractions under the effect of functions from Fsb. Moreover, we deduce new common fixed point results in ordered and graphic b-metric spaces. Our work generalizes several recent results existing in the literature. We set up an example to elucidate main result. We apply the main theorem to show the existence of common solution of the system of elliptic boundary value problems

Islamic Financial Development and Economic Growth of Emerging Economy of Pakistan; a Panel Data Approach

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to investigate the dynamic interactions between five pure Islamic banks of Pakistan and economic growth by using Panel ARDL method over the period of 2006-2016. The study elaborates strong confirmation and advocates the significant positive long-run relationship with economic growth. However, in short-run, each bank has individual significant positive relationship with economic growth in its individual capacity. The findings of this study are encouraging and signify a considerable contribution to recognize how pure Islamic banks activities translated into economic performance of the country. Although prudential regulations of State Bank of Pakistan are quite sound and their legislative structure and policy framing is also equally good but they are required to enhance the number of pure Islamic banks in the country for offering multiple options to clientele in order to promote Islamic economic activities in the country  to make Pakistan more prosperous

Key Performance Indicators for Sustainable Freight Transport and Scenario-based Impediments in Pakistan Freight Industry

    Get PDF
Freight transport enables economic growth, market connectivity, and access to the global supply chain systems which contribute to the societal progress and inclusive development of a country. However, it may undermine the sustainable operations by incurring external costs, inefficiency, and economic losses due to non-reliability, poor services, and information systems. In this research study, the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Sustainable Freight Transport Systems (SFTS) are discussed based on available literature review and standards of sustainability measurement in freight transport. Then, based on KPIs some of the scenario-based impediments are highlighted which hinder the performance of the freight transport in Pakistan for achieving sustainable development goals. The core impediments included are Strategic Determinants (SD), Information Systems (IS), Infrastructure Management Systems (IMS) and City Logistics (CL). The negative direct impacts of the key identified factors are also highlighted and linked with each scenario-based impediment. This research study would provide an opportunity for the stakeholders to get tangible idea for policy making and upgradation of the freight transport industry in the country. The highlighted implications will also be validated via expert surveys and Delphi-analysis in the future study.

Application of Multi-Objective Optimization Based on Genetic Algorithm for Sustainable Strategic Supplier Selection under Fuzzy Environment

Purpose: The incorporation of environmental objective into the conventional supplier selection practices is crucial for corporations seeking to promote green supply chain management (GSCM). Challenges and risks associated with green supplier selection have been broadly recognized by procurement and supplier management professionals. This paper aims to solve a Tetra “S” (SSSS) problem based on a fuzzy multi-objective optimization with genetic algorithm in a holistic supply chain environment. In this empirical study, a mathematical model with fuzzy coefficients is considered for sustainable strategic supplier selection (SSSS) problem and a corresponding model is developed to tackle this problem. Design/methodology/approach: Sustainable strategic supplier selection (SSSS) decisions are typically multi-objectives in nature and it is an important part of green production and supply chain management for many firms. The proposed uncertain model is transferred into deterministic model by applying the expected value measure (EVM) and genetic algorithm with weighted sum approach for solving the multi-objective problem. This research focus on a multiobjective optimization model for minimizing lean cost, maximizing sustainable service and greener product quality level. Finally, a mathematical case of textile sector is presented to exemplify the effectiveness of the proposed model with a sensitivity analysis. Findings: This study makes a certain contribution by introducing the Tetra ‘S’ concept in both the theoretical and practical research related to multi-objective optimization as well as in the study of sustainable strategic supplier selection (SSSS) under uncertain environment. Our results suggest that decision makers tend to select strategic supplier first then enhance the sustainability. Research limitations/implications: Although the fuzzy expected value model (EVM) with fuzzy coefficients constructed in present research should be helpful for solving real world problems. A detailed comparative analysis by using other algorithms is necessary for solving similar problems of agriculture, pharmaceutical, chemicals and services sectors in future. Practical implications: It can help the decision makers for ordering to different supplier for managing supply chain performance in efficient and effective manner. From the procurement and engineering perspectives, minimizing cost, sustaining the quality level and meeting production time line is the main consideration for selecting the supplier. Empirically, this can facilitate engineers to reduce production costs and at the same time improve the product quality. Originality/value: In this paper, we developed a novel multi-objective programming model based on genetic algorithm to select sustainable strategic supplier (SSSS) under fuzzy environment. The algorithm was tested and applied to solve a real case of textile sector in Pakistan. The experimental results and comparative sensitivity analysis illustrate the effectiveness of our proposed model.Peer Reviewe

[EN] In this paper, we introduce a new contraction called dualistic contraction of rational type and obtain some fixed point results. These results generalize various comparable results appeared in the literature. We provide an example to show the superiority of our results over corresponding fixed point results proved in metric spaces.Nazam, M.; Arshad, M.; Abbas, M. (2016). Some fixed point results for dualistic rational contractions. Applied General Topology. 17(2):199-209. doi:10.4995/agt.2016.5920SWORD19920917

ON COMMON FIXED POINTS THEOREMS FOR ORDERED FF-CONTRACTIONS WITH APPLICATION

    Get PDF
We study the conditions for existence of a unique common fixed point of ordered FF-contractions defined on an ordered partial metric space; in particular, we present a common fixed point result for a pair of ordered FF-contractions satisfying a generalized rational type contractive condition and discuss its consequences. It is remarked that the notion of an FF-contraction in partial metric spaces is more general than that in metric spaces. As application of our findings, we demonstrate the existence of common solution of the system of Volterra type integral equations

On the Perov's type (β,F)-contraction principle and an application to delay integro-differential problem

    Get PDF
We present Perov's type (β,F) (\beta, F) -contraction principle and examine the fixed points of the self-operators satisfying Perov's type (β,F) (\beta, F) -contraction principle in the context of vector-valued b b -metrics. A specific instance of the (β,F) (\beta, F) -contraction principle is the F F -contraction principle. We generalize a number of recent findings that are already in the literature and provide an example to illustrate the hypothesis of the main theorem. We apply the obtained fixed point theorem to show the existence of the solution to the delay integro-differential problem

On a common fixed point theorem in vector-valued b-metric spaces: Its consequences and application

    Get PDF
We introduce a Ćirić type contraction principle in a vector-valued b b -metric space that generalizes Perov's contraction principle. We investigate the possible conditions on the mappings W,E:GG W, E:G\rightarrow G (G G is a non-empty set), for which these mappings admit a unique common fixed point in G G subject to a nonlinear operator F:PmRm {\bf F}:\mathbb{P}^{m} \rightarrow \mathbb{R}^{m} . We illustrate the hypothesis of our findings with examples. We consider an infectious disease model represented by the system of delay integro-differential equations and apply the obtained fixed point theorem to show the existence of a solution to this model
